Ohio State & Arizona Hirings

It’s the most..wonderful…time…of the year. Coaches are getting fired, which means I’m more interested than ever. Let’s review where the college football coaching landscape stands.

Ohio State & Urban Meyer
Just announced today…pretty much the biggest potential name out there goes to the biggest possible program. I feel like I’ve lost a ton of respect for Urban. I feel like this is a dirty move…why leave Florida? Really. Why? If you wanted to go to Notre Dame or Ohio State, why not just leave straight up instead of “retiring” for a year? Great for Ohio State…but I wish him no success. I’m not even a Florida fan. I understand leaving for a job at Notre Dame or Ohio State. It is easier to get to the national title game at either of those places than it is at Florida (or any school in the SEC). Good for him, but he sold his soul to do in making this move.

Arizona & Rich Rod
This is the perfect hire for Arizona. I’ve read all this crap on how he isn’t a good fit or he wasn’t any good… umm, I’m going to have to disagree. I really think he would have won 10 games at Michigan this year. I also think Arizona isn’t really a destination football school right now. Rich Rod can recruit his “kind” of athlete to come run his system and win… a lot. He’s not going to be competing for the same recruits at USC or a pro-style offense or defense will. This is how you win football games when you’re stuck in the middle… like Arizona currently is. Yes, the Michigan Rich Rod era did not go well. He also wasn’t exactly given a support system to help him.

I’m going to tackle the open jobs in another post…as there are some fascinating jobs currently open in college football.
