Who Lurks FFB Year 3, Week 8 Recap
I'm back! Second week this season at the top of the scoring list and it feels good. Plus let's be honest, as a Redskins fan I deserve something positive. It was kind of a weird week around the NFL. The Ravens all of the sudden look mediocre, the Rams came out of nowhere to really take it to the Saints, the Chiefs have come back from the dead and now really look like the best team in that AFC West division again. Oh, and Denver fans are all Tebowing, praying that Indy, Miami, St. Louis, and Arizona can win a few games so that the Broncos can get into the Suck-for-Luck race. They may be SOL though (see what I did there?), cause the Colts are just plain awful. Even if Manning is able to come back they should just blow that whole thing up. Let's get to it…
One Man Gang 159.20 (4-4) - LA Terps 93.20 (4-4)
Nice when your studs come to play, right? 58.8 points total from Stafford and AP led the way for me, though I shouldn't overlook the 29 I got from the Detroit defense which really pushed me over the scoring edge. Good support from Fitzgerald, Gronkowski, and Manningham, while Mathews sealed the deal for me on Monday night despite going out in Q4 with a groin. Hate that. Noah couldn't keep up, and leaving Eli on his bench as his highest scoring player for the week didn't help, but also wouldn't have made a difference. A few good days but not much support elsewhere. We're both at 4-4 with 4 other teams, but the points scored difference is significant. I've got tiebreakers, he doesn't. Gotta win some games.
Heat Seeking Nipple 155.77 (5-3) - Alex Morgan Hottie 111.57 (2-6)
Usually when someone decides to carry 3 defenses on their team I'll make fun of them in principle, but obviously picking up the D going against Washington was a wise move, to the tune of 10 sacks and 26 fantasy points for Buffalo. VERY balanced attack for Curtis, with 8 of his 10 starters in double digits supporting the week's top scorer, Steven Jackson and his 35.1 point haul. Chris' day was decent, not quite as good as it could have been if he'd made better roster calls, but none of those changes would have made a difference in the end. This is the second time he's gone against the #2 scoring day in the league, and he's also gone against the top score twice. Most points against in the league, to which I say…waa.
Zapp Brannigan 127.10 (6-2) - Tebow's Sluts 89.67 (4-4)
Welcome to the Ray Rice show! 3 TDs and 31.4 points for the Ravens wrecking ball, supported by 21.5 for Megatron and 18.9 for Foster. A goose-egg for Heap and a lame performance by Torain didn't phase Chris' squad, as he rode his studs to a 3rd win in a row and a 2 game lead in Division 2. Despite the stud-filled lineup of Freeman, Greene, Turner, Jennings, White, and Finley…oh wait…those were Nate's players on bye this week. Right, about that. Guys like Doug Baldwin and Michael Jenkins couldn't quite pick up the slack, Nate got decent points from Cam, Antonio Brown, and no one else. At least he knows he basically doesn't have to worry about byes for the rest of the year?
Yankees Suck 123.90 (4-4) - Dicks Sporting Goods 72.40 (4-4)
If I told you that the Eagles were going to score 34 on the Cowboys, and that between McCoy and DJax there would be 39.6 fantasy points scored, you'd probably figure the Eagles had a decent passing day and DJax might have actually broken out. Nope. 35 for McCoy, and for Yankees Suck, which buried Brent as he watched DJax pull in only 4.6 points. Really Brent was in desperation mode at that point anyway, having gotten 0s from Woodhead and Gresham, and only 6.9 from Welker earlier in the day. It was that kind of day for him, with Burleson also disappointing big time. 5.2 points on a day where your team scores 45 and your QB throws a lot, is not good. On Joe's side, McCoy's big day was supported primarily by the Cincy D (18), and Dalton (15.7). He got decent production from the rest of the roster though, which put him well over the century mark and back into the win column. These two are in the 4-4 clump, but Joe has won four of his last five and scored less than 112 only once. Brent has lost 4 of his last 5 and this is now three of the last four weeks under 100 points.
The Turd Fergusons 116.43 (6-2) - My Vick Hurts 93.67 (2-6)
Can anyone remember a player ever being so productive fantasy-wise yet looking so god-awful when he's actually playing football? Tim Tebow is the #11 fantasy QB over the last four weeks despite having had his bye during that stretch, and despite having been a complete joke at the quarterback position. Still, Gallagher's team will take the 15.83 points Tebow gave him this week and run with it, keeping him atop the league. He got 7 players in double-digits and despite one of his lower scoring weeks of the season, was able to get back to his winning ways. Neal on the other hand is struggling, and doesn't have to look much further than his RBs to figure out why. 6.4 total from DeAngelo Williams and Brandon Jacobs, and Roy Helu is his only bench RB. Decent production otherwise, and big days from Roethlisberger and Boldin, but going sub-100 isn't going to cut it most weeks in this league...
Goodell's Minions 98.40 (4-4) - Who Dat Nation 94.40 (3-5)
…Except of course when going under 100 is just good enough. This was by far the closest and most entertaining matchup to follow. Who Dat took a 66.4 - 62 lead into Sunday Night Football with Witten and Henery going for him against Vick. Well, Vick pounded them to the tune of 26.4 points while Eric's duo only combined for 14.8. Still, he had Floyd going Monday night, needing 17.3 points to win. That's a really good game for Floyd but not out of the question. He came close, getting 13.2 and having numerous opportunities, but Rivers couldn't hold it together, literally or figuratively, and the WDN fell short. Outside of Vick, Truch's biggest day came from Maurice Morris who gave him 13. Both teams played injured Browns RBs (though to be fair, Hardesty was hurt in this game), and both teams had Saints WRs that underperformed. The difference is that Truch benched Meachem, while Eric played both Henderson and Colston, who combined for 7.8. Playing Crabtree and his 13.9 over either of them would have flipped this result. Both teams sit in the bottom half (8th and 10th), due to record and points scored, and will have some work to do to make playoff runs.
